Technical Lead, Data Network Services

Technical Lead, Data Network Services is responsible for ensuring that the WAN/LAN networks are available, responsive, efficient, and secure on a day-to-day basis. They also have responsibility for planning changes and maintenance to the network infrastructure that are required in order to ensure that it continues to meet the needs of the business into the future, and to implement these with the least risk and disruption to the business.
Provide Level 2/3 technical support Operations, and Production Services, including troubleshooting Data network outages / performance problems / etc in a timely fashion or where network support under managed services liaise with vendor as necessary for issue resolution
Work with ITSM for root cause resolution to identify problems
Work with Architecture and Engineering to plan and implement changes to the network to remain current with the technology, address security, availability, or capacity issues, and to respond to evolving requirements of the business
Ensure changes are scheduled for implementation following established change control procedures, with proper post-implementation monitoring
Plan & schedule resources & work in a controlled manner, including providing necessary communication to customers and stakeholders
Mentor junior team members and develop and implement a systematic staff training program for improving the skills of data communications personnel
Maintain proper network documentation for Data Communications
Monitor the network to ensure adequate capacity, appropriate responsiveness to different traffic types
Evaluate new network technologies, products, and services; prepare reports and recommendations
Coordinate, review, and perform repair services in emergency situations as needed
Oversee and coordinate assigned data communications activities
Recommend improvements to enhance technical capabilities of the system and reduce operating costs
Write technical specifications
Assist with preparation of RFP/RFQ for tendering
Maintain schedules and monitor/track for assigned project deliverables
Perform other duties as assigned
Skills, Experience and Education:
Strong working knowledge of Networking including TCP, IP, ARP, VLAN, STP, OSPF, BGP, VOIP, QoS, SNMP, HTTP, DNS, and SMTP
Superior troubleshooting skills, able to think outside of the box and make decision under high pressure situations.
Network monitoring tools: Netscout, Openview
Routing and switching: Avaya/Nortel and Cisco
Checkpoint and McAfee Enterprise Firewalls
Load Balancing: Radware and F5.
Proxy Servers: Bluecoat
WAN technologies: T1, ISDN, MPLS, DSL/ADSL, CDMA
Ability to work effectively with personnel on all levels
Liaise with third party vendors and managed service vendors
Minimum 5 years of team management and network design.
University or College degree in Engineering or Computer Science an asset.
Certificates, Licenses or Registration
Checkpoint and GIAC certifications are an asset.
CISSP is an asset
Salary CAD 70 – 100 Hourly Rate
